Evidence
"I will always fight to protect Social Security and Medicare" and "I will always oppose Republicans’ efforts to privatize Social Security and cut the essential benefits that our seniors have earned".
Frankel joined House colleagues to introduce the Claws Off Social Security Act, a bill that would cap withholding for Social Security overpayments at 10 percent of a recipient's benefit and prevent seniors from losing their entire checks over accidental overpayments.
The introduced bill is titled the Social Security Expansion Act and lists "Ms. Lois Frankel of Florida" among the cosponsors. The bill would "enhance Social Security benefits and ensure the long-term solvency of the Social Security program."
Frankel said after voting against a Republican funding bill that "it fails to protect Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid from devastating cuts."
Action: Ms. Budzinski (for herself, Ms. Lois Frankel of Florida, and Mr. Magaziner) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Ways and Means, and in addition to the Committee on Education and Workforce... Bill Version: Introduced in House (IH).
The issue page continues to list Social Security and Medicare as an active priority, with recent 2026 posts under that issue including a January 9, 2026 statement on voting to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits and earlier 2025 posts on Social Security-related legislation.
Assessments
Frankel has actively tried to protect Social Security during her federal House term by cosponsoring or introducing bills such as the Social Security Expansion Act, Claws Off Social Security Act, and Boosting Benefits and COLAs for Seniors Act, and by opposing measures she said threatened Social Security. However, the evidence shows introduction, referral, public advocacy, and votes rather than enactment or a completed federal protection outcome. Because there was serious legislative effort but no delivered promised result, this is best scored as not fulfilled with an effort badge.
Frankel made active same-term efforts to protect Social Security, including introducing or cosponsoring bills and opposing measures she said would expose Social Security to cuts. However, the evidence shows legislative activity and public opposition only, not enactment or a concrete delivered protection outcome. Under the rule for serious attempts that fail to deliver the promised outcome, this should be marked never with an effort badge.
