Members of Congress should not use insider information to trade stocks. I voluntarily sold my publicly traded individual stocks shortly after taking office and believe every Member of Congress should be held to that same standard.
Ashley Hinson will support banning Members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children from purchasing publicly traded stocks.

H.R. 7008 defines covered individuals as Members of Congress plus their spouse or dependent child, defines covered investment as a security issued by a publicly traded company, and states that no covered individual may purchase a covered investment. The Senate PCS version shows it was read a second time and placed on the calendar on August 6, 2026.
Assessments
The promise was to support a congressional stock-purchase ban covering Members of Congress, spouses, and dependent children. During her federal House term, Hinson voted Yea on final passage of H.R. 7008, the Stop Insider Trading Act, whose text matched the promised ban. Because the commitment was to support the ban rather than secure enactment, her same-term vote on final passage is enough to count as delivered even though the bill had only advanced to the Senate calendar in the provided evidence.
