Shift the burden of DNA instrument calibration and validation from individual crime labs to the FBI laboratory . In many jurisdictions, untested SAKs have outpaced the resources to test, process, and profile DNA samples in crime labs. One major reason for this is because lab technicians are often having to spend outsized portions of their time testing and validating the lab instruments used in the DNA testing process. By transferring much of the instrument validation burden over to FBI labs, DNA analysts in crime labs across the country would be able to focus more of their time and resources actually testing SAKs rather than calibrating lab instruments.
Ann Wagner will support legislation shifting DNA instrument calibration and validation duties from individual crime labs to the FBI laboratory so local analysts can focus more on testing sexual assault kits.

Mrs. Wagner, and Ms. Clark of Massachusetts) introduced the following bill
Assessments
The verified commitment was to support legislation shifting DNA instrument calibration and validation burdens toward the FBI, not necessarily to secure enactment of the policy outcome. Verified bill text shows the introduced Backlog Justice Act contains the relevant FBI-led forensic instrument verification provision, and GovInfo shows the bill was introduced and referred to committee. Wagner is also verified as an introducer of the earlier Backlog Justice Act, supporting material attribution for this legislative effort. Because the promised action was support/advancement of legislation rather than enactment, the commitment is delivered; enactment of the broader policy outcome remains unproven but is not required by this occurrence.
