Occurrences
We are committed to working with House Leadership to ensure that Congress protects American families, starting with safeguarding their access to quality, affordable health care.
Evidence
Representative Hillary Scholten is leading eight members of the Lowering Costs Caucus in calling on House Speaker Mike Johnson to extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) enhanced premium tax credits that are set to expire at the end of the year. The letter says the members are committed to working with House leadership to protect Americans' access to affordable health care.
The caucus page says the group is committed to restoring the basic promise that hard work should pay off and that everyone deserves a fair shot, and that it will fight to make sure Americans are not just getting by, but getting ahead.
Assessments
Scholten has taken same-term federal action consistent with defending and trying to expand the ACA, including leading colleagues in urging House leadership to extend enhanced ACA premium tax credits. However, the evidence shows advocacy and caucus activity rather than enacted ACA expansion or a completed protective outcome. Because the promised result is only partly substantiated through serious effort, not full delivery, partial credit is appropriate.
