Red flag laws to disarm those who are imminently a threat to themselves or others
Support red flag laws.
Occurrences
He promises to be "ferocious in supporting members who will vote for ... red flag laws"
Evidence
We need to adopt the common-sense suite of Massachusetts measures to reduce gun violence: background checks, safe storage, red-flag laws, and more.
H.R. 7599 | Cosponsored — To authorize the issuance of extreme risk protection orders. | 02/17/26
Assessments
The promise was to support red flag laws, not necessarily to enact a federal red flag law. In office, Auchincloss publicly endorsed red-flag laws on his official gun-violence issue page and cosponsored H.R. 7599, the Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act of 2026, which would authorize federal extreme risk protection orders. H.R. 7599 had only been introduced and referred to committee as of February 17, 2026, so it does not show enactment of a new federal red-flag law, but it is sufficient to fulfill a support pledge during his current House term.
