Investing in our infrastructure to upgrade our roads, bridge, pipes, and water systems
Invest in infrastructure to upgrade roads, bridges, pipes, and water systems.
Occurrences
Next week, I will return to Washington filled with resolve to secure funding for this slate of projects in the federal budget and to continue working to ensure our communities receive the investment we deserve.
Now and going forward, I’ll be working tirelessly to deliver that kind of investment through our federal budget.
You have my pledge to fight tooth and nail to include these 20 projects in our federal budget and bring these dollars home for the benefit of all in our region.
Evidence
Tonko said he secured $14,093,000 in federal funding for 15 community development and improvement projects, and that the FY2026 appropriations packages were signed into law. The funded list included water main replacements, water system improvements, wastewater treatment plant upgrades, and sewage infrastructure improvements.
Tonko announced 20 community projects submitted to the House Appropriations Committee for FY2027 and pledged to fight to include them in the federal budget. The project list included infrastructure improvements, a water storage and quality improvement project, and sewer upgrades, but the funding was still only proposed.
Assessments
Tonko secured enacted FY2026 federal appropriations funding for local infrastructure projects, including water main replacements, water system improvements, wastewater treatment upgrades, and sewage infrastructure improvements. That directly advances the promise to invest in roads, bridges, pipes, and water systems, but the evidence shows project-level funding rather than a comprehensive fulfillment of the full broad infrastructure promise. His later FY2027 project submissions show continued effort but were only proposed, not delivered.
