Evidence
Congressman Casar advocates for ending the Jim Crow-era filibuster and expanding the U.S. Supreme Court, so that our democracy can work for everyday people, not just the powerful and rich.
Instead of being strengthened or expanded, the civil rights of Texans are under attack by an unethical and unaccountable majority on the Supreme Court... I support legislation like the Equality Act...
Mr. Johnson of Georgia ... Mr. Casar ... introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary. ... A bill to amend title 28, United States Code, to allow for twelve associate justices of the Supreme Court of the United States.
This bill increases from 9 to 13 the number of Justices on the Supreme Court. Latest Action: Senate - 05/16/2023 Read twice and referred to the Committee on the Judiciary. Tracker: Tip | This bill has the status Introduced.
Assessments
The promised outcomes did not occur: the Senate filibuster was not ended and the U.S. Supreme Court was not expanded. Casar did make a serious legislative effort on the Court-expansion portion by cosponsoring H.R.3422, the Judiciary Act of 2023, but that bill only reached introduction and committee referral and was not enacted. The filibuster portion also was not delivered. Because the substantive promised outcome failed despite legislative effort, the correct outcome is never with an effort badge.
