Stop reckless spending, control inflation, and cut taxes so families keep more of what they earn.
Occurrences
I'm running to make life affordable again for Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Evidence
On the campaign website’s Economy section, Bresnahan says: “We need to stop the reckless spending, get inflation under control, and cut taxes so you can keep more of the money you earn for your family.”
Bresnahan said the House-passed H.R. 1 “locks in the Trump tax cuts, delivers real relief to mom-and-pop shops,” and “does not tax tips and overtime.”
The White House said the One Big Beautiful Bill was signed into law and included “The largest tax cut in history for middle- and working-class Americans” and “Restoring fiscal sanity by cutting $1.5 trillion in spending.”
Bresnahan introduced H.R. 5695, the No Taxation Without Operation Act, which he said would prevent the IRS from collecting federal income tax during a government shutdown and freeze related penalties and interest.
Congress.gov shows H.R.1 as law and says it "reduces taxes" and "reduces or increases spending for various federal programs." The bill status reads "Became Public Law No: 119-21" on 07/04/2025.
The BLS reported that the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers increased 0.6 percent in April 2026 and was up 3.8 percent over the last 12 months.
Assessments
The promise bundled three outcomes: stopping reckless spending, controlling inflation, and cutting taxes. During Bresnahan's same federal House term, H.R. 1 became law and official records describe it as reducing taxes and changing federal spending, with Bresnahan publicly supporting the reconciliation package. That supports partial fulfillment of the tax-cut and spending components, and his own tax-related bill shows additional effort. However, the inflation component is not shown as delivered; the cited April 2026 CPI reading still showed 3.8% year-over-year inflation. Because a central part of the promise remains unresolved, this should not be scored as fully delivered.
The promise bundled three outcomes: stopping reckless spending, controlling inflation, and cutting taxes. Evidence shows same-term action and partial delivery on taxes and spending through Bresnahan's support for H.R. 1/One Big Beautiful Bill, which became law and was described as cutting taxes and reducing spending, plus his introduction of H.R. 5695 on tax collection during shutdowns. However, the record provided does not establish that inflation was brought under control or that the full broad economic pledge was achieved. Because there was concrete legislative effort on a material part of the promise, the effort badge is warranted.
