Continue to explore long-term solutions for dialysis treatment in Macon County.

Evidence
As your Congressman, I’ll work to: build on the legacy of the Affordable Care Act by working to ensure that every person in Alabama can get a checkup every year and advocating for healthcare policies that prioritize accessibility, affordability, and quality of health care, particularly in rural communities; expand healthcare networks, increase funding for community health centers and foster partnerships with reputable companies capable of delivering quality, affordable healthcare to our District; build out healthcare networks in rural communities through grants that leverage partnerships with our community colleges and existing healthcare providers.
Following a request from Congressman Shomari C. Figures (AL-02), Fresenius Kidney Care has agreed to delay plans to close a dialysis center in Tuskegee, AL until May 17, 2026. Figures made the request after outreach last month from Tuskegee Mayor Chris Lee who indicated Fresenius planned to close the center in 30 days.
U.S. Rep. Shomari Figures’ office confirmed the facility will remain in operation for another two months, through May 17. Figures said, 'We will continue to explore long-term solutions for dialysis treatment.'
Assessments
Figures materially advanced the issue during his current House term by requesting and securing a temporary delay of the Tuskegee dialysis center closure, preserving access in Macon County through May 17, 2026. That is concrete same-term action and supports candidate credit. However, the evidence shows only a short-term closure delay and a public statement that long-term dialysis solutions would continue to be explored; it does not show that a durable long-term solution was adopted or implemented. Because the promised outcome is framed as continued exploration rather than enactment of a specific facility or funding solution, this merits partial fulfillment rather than never, but not full delivery.
