I am committed to fostering an environment where cryptocurrency thrives, free from the heavy hand of central control. My aim is to advocate for a regulatory landscape that nurtures innovation and supports the continued development of the cryptocurrency landscape. Importantly, Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) represent a concerning move towards greater financial surveillance and control by central authorities... I oppose CBDCs.

Evidence
"My aim is to advocate for a regulatory landscape that nurtures innovation and supports the continued development of the cryptocurrency landscape." The page also states, "I oppose CBDCs as they centralize power rather than democratize it."
Begich announced the BITCOIN Act of 2025, describing it as a bill that would establish a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and stating that it "ensures that Bitcoin... is formally recognized as a strategic national asset." The release says the bill "explicitly prohibits the federal government from interfering with self-custody rights."
Begich said the GENIUS Act "represents a critical turning point for cryptocurrency and digital assets" and that it provides the "guardrails necessary to unleash innovation" while protecting consumers. He said it sends a message that the United States is serious about remaining the global hub for digital asset development.
Assessments
Begich made the promise in a 2022 federal House special-election campaign in which he was not elected to the seat, so later congressional activity should be credited as later_term rather than same_term. After entering Congress later, he publicly backed House passage of the GENIUS Act as pro-innovation crypto regulation and introduced the BITCOIN Act to create a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and protect self-custody rights, which materially advances the pro-cryptocurrency innovation part of the pledge. The evidence does not show that he delivered a completed anti-CBDC outcome or materially advanced a specific anti-CBDC measure, so the full combined promise is only partially fulfilled.
