I pledge to work for solutions that... achieve greater accountability
Will work for solutions that achieve greater accountability.
Occurrences
Should you require additional authority from Congress to strengthen oversight or improve program integrity, I stand ready to work with you to ensure these programs meet their full potential.
Evidence
“I pledge to work for solutions that eliminate wasteful government spending, strengthen our foreign policy and national security, achieve greater accountability, promote economic success for all Americans, repeal Obamacare and allow Arkansas’s families and businesses to thrive.”
The House passed the Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act on a yea-and-nay vote, 368-55.
“That is why when I was elected to Congress I re-established the Golden Fleece Award... The Golden Fleece Award has highlighted some of the most egregious examples of government waste and shed new light on some of the rampant, unnecessary spending by the federal government... I will continue to bring attention to this issue through the Golden Fleece Award and will push for action on the House floor.”
“Clearly, more transparency and accountability are needed...” and Hill said the federal agencies “must act as good stewards of taxpayers’ dollars.”
Rep. Hill announced H.R.1568, the Special Drawing Rights Oversight Act, and said the bill “ensures a proper check on the executive branch and greater accountability.”
Assessments
Hill made a broad promise to work for greater accountability rather than promising a specific enacted reform. During the 2017-2019 House term tied to the 2016 campaign, accountability legislation such as the Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act advanced in the House, and Hill maintained public accountability efforts like the Golden Fleece initiative. However, the evidence does not show that he authored, sponsored, or was a decisive driver of a completed accountability reform in that term. Later actions, including sponsoring the Special Drawing Rights Oversight Act and continuing Golden Fleece oversight messaging, show sustained effort but not full delivery of a clearly completed promised outcome.
