Making utilities cheaper by cracking down on for-profit utilities overcharging consumers, saving the average family $500 a year;
Crack down on for-profit utilities that overcharge consumers to lower utility bills.
Occurrences
Evidence
Utility bills are too high. This week AES announced it will be acquired by a private company, a deal that could make utility costs even worse and that I strongly oppose. That’s why I’m hosting a Utility Assistance Fair on Saturday, April 11 to make sure Indianapolis residents have the resources they need to tackle high utility costs. I’ve been fighting to lower utility costs in Congress, and under Democratic leadership, we made progress. I passed a bill that lowered utility costs with energy efficiency tax credits, grid modernization, and solar panel incentives.
Assessments
Carson showed relevant effort by opposing a private utility acquisition, hosting utility-bill assistance, and pointing to prior federal legislation he says lowered costs through efficiency credits, grid modernization, and solar incentives. However, the evidence does not show that he enacted or caused a federal crackdown on for-profit utilities that overcharge consumers, nor that such a crackdown directly lowered utility bills. The demonstrated actions are advocacy, constituent assistance, and broader energy-cost measures, so they merit partial credit rather than full delivery.
