“Lead the Next Era of Space Innovation” and “Expand America’s leadership in space exploration, national defense, and commercial spaceflight. Strengthen investments in Florida’s Space Coast and other key hubs, cut bureaucratic roadblocks, and ensure U.S. dominance in space technology.”
Congress.gov shows Sen. Moody as sponsor of S.1560, introduced on 05/01/2025, titled the Secure U.S. Leadership in Space Act of 2025, referred to the Senate Finance Committee.
Moody said the bill was meant to ensure the United States remains competitive and at the forefront of space innovation and exploration by making spaceport facility bonds tax-exempt and treating spaceports like airports and seaports.
The release says the NDAA included expanded shipbuilding, prioritization of Golden Dome missile defense, and programming and research efforts for the Space Coast, and describes these as victories secured by Moody through passage of the NDAA.
Moody said she is dedicated to supporting Florida’s Space Coast and helping keep the nation first in space; the background section says she introduced the Secure U.S. Leadership in Space Act, which the release states became law, and also sponsored the CAPE Canaveral Act and Space Ready Act.
Assessments
Moody made concrete same-term efforts toward the promise by introducing the Secure U.S. Leadership in Space Act, sponsoring additional space-related bills, and claiming space and defense-related provisions through the NDAA. The evidence also says her office claimed one space bill became law. However, the promise is broad, covering U.S. leadership across space exploration, national defense, and commercial spaceflight, and the record provided shows meaningful but incomplete progress rather than a fully achieved expansion across all promised areas.
