pressing the Trump Administration to immediately restore the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline’s LGBTQ+ specialized services, commonly accessed through the “Press 3” option
Evidence
The congressman’s official press release feed says Krishnamoorthi, along with Reps. Sharice Davids and Seth Moulton, sent HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. a letter pressing the Trump administration to immediately restore the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline’s LGBTQ+ specialized services, commonly accessed through the Press 3 option.
The same official press-release feed shows Krishnamoorthi joined NAMI Chicago, The Trevor Project, and other advocates for a call-center tour and press conference urging restoration of the specialized LGBTQ+ 988 crisis services.
Politico reported that SAMHSA said the 988 Press 3 option would end on July 17, 2025, and that HHS had already proposed removing the LGBTQ+ funding from the 2026 budget.
Assessments
Krishnamoorthi gets credit for meaningful in-office advocacy: on May 7, 2026 he joined a letter to HHS and public events pressing for restoration of the 988 Lifeline's LGBTQ+ 'Press 3' services. But the promised federal outcome was not delivered. The specialized nationwide service was terminated on July 17, 2025, the Trump administration had proposed removing the dedicated funding, and there is no evidence by June 11, 2026 that Krishnamoorthi secured federal funding or achieved nationwide restoration. That supports partial credit for advocacy, not full delivery.
