Instead, I advocate for making these programs more efficient by cracking down on waste, fraud, and abuse, and letting Medicare negotiate the cost of drug prices.
I will make Social Security and Medicare more efficient by cracking down on waste, fraud, and abuse, and I will let Medicare negotiate drug prices.

Assessments
Medicare drug-price negotiation is substantively in effect and expanding during Scholten's congressional service, and CMS has taken Medicare anti-fraud actions during the same period. However, the core negotiation authority was enacted in the Inflation Reduction Act on August 16, 2022, before Scholten entered Congress in January 2023, and the evidence does not show she sponsored, wrote, or materially advanced that law. The waste/fraud/abuse evidence is also mainly CMS executive action, not a Scholten-specific legislative achievement, and it does not establish comparable Social Security action. This supports partial credit for national policy outcomes occurring during her term, but not full delivery attributable to her.
