The White House ordered agencies to identify sanctuary jurisdictions and to suspend or terminate federal funds to them where permitted by law.

Assessments
As a federal representative, Lance Gooden can receive credit for serious legislative effort, not for unilateral nationwide eradication. The strongest evidence is that on February 20, 2026 he introduced the End Sanctuary Cities Act specifically to penalize state and local officials who obstruct federal immigration enforcement. That is a direct and material attempt to fulfill the promise. But there is no evidence the bill was enacted, no evidence sanctuary-city policies were actually eliminated, and broader anti-sanctuary executive actions were undertaken by the Trump administration rather than delivered by Gooden himself. Those executive actions were also at least partly blocked in court in April 2025. On the available record, Gooden seriously pursued the promise but did not deliver the promised outcome of eradicating sanctuary cities.
