I will continue to use the full power of my office to support the brave first responders on the front lines fighting wildfires across the country.
Use the full power of the office to support wildland firefighters and first responders fighting wildfires across the country.

Evidence
Public Law 119-18 says the Act is for wildfire suppression purposes and cites S. 160.
Axios reported that a bipartisan group of Western senators, including Tim Sheehy, introduced the Fix Our Forests Act to overhaul forest management and mitigate wildfire risk.
The official press-release index lists a June 22, 2026 item titled “Sheehy, Padilla Introduce Bipartisan Legislation to Secure Hazard Pay for Wildland Firefighters.”
AP reported that the U.S. Wildland Fire Service was established in 2026, that Congress blocked including Forest Service firefighters in the plan, and that Sheehy had sponsored a bill to codify consolidation of federal firefighters into one agency and supports the new fire agency.
GovInfo lists S. 160 as introduced by Mr. Sheehy, with Sen. Heinrich, and titled the Aerial Firefighting Enhancement Act of 2025, to reauthorize Defense Department aircraft and parts sales for wildfire suppression purposes.
Public Law 119-18 enacted the Aerial Firefighting Enhancement Act of 2025 and reauthorized the sale of Department of Defense aircraft and parts for provision of aircraft services for wildfire suppression purposes through October 1, 2035.
GovInfo’s reported Senate version of S. 1462 shows Curtis, Hickenlooper, Sheehy, and Padilla introduced the Fix Our Forests Act; it was reported by Sen. Boozman with an amendment on October 27, 2025. The bill includes wildfire risk reduction, prescribed fire, local fire suppression, and a Wildland Fire Management Casualty Assistance Program.
Executive Order 14308 directed the Interior and Agriculture secretaries to consolidate wildland fire programs where practicable, expand partnerships and mutual aid, improve wildfire technology, review barriers to prescribed fire and retardant use, develop response metrics, and prioritize excess aircraft and parts for wildfire mitigation and response.
Assessments
Sheehy used his Senate office to support wildfire response, including sponsoring S. 160, the Aerial Firefighting Enhancement Act of 2025, which became Public Law 119-18, and joining additional wildfire and firefighter-related legislation such as hazard-pay and forest-management bills. That is concrete same-term delivery on part of the promise. However, the pledge was broad, covering full support for wildland firefighters and first responders nationwide, and the record shows continuing proposals and incomplete broader reforms rather than full realization of the whole commitment.
The promise is broad and ongoing, so isolated wildfire measures do not amount to full delivery. In his first Senate term, Sheehy appears to have taken concrete action by joining Senate wildfire legislation and by being connected to enacted wildfire-response legislation reauthorizing aircraft-and-parts sales for suppression. Those steps materially support wildland firefighters and first responders, but the record here shows only partial fulfillment of the larger pledge to use the full power of the office across the country.
