Protecting the Indian River Lagoon Advancing common sense ideas to protect our environment and joining the Congressional Estuary Caucus.
If elected, he will protect the Indian River Lagoon and support environmental safeguards.
Occurrences
Mike will vote to sustain the NEP program to help maintain our nation’s environmental treasures like the Indian River Lagoon. Plus, Mike will join the bi-partisan Congressional Estuary Caucus created by Bill Posey to help solve the growing problem in our 28 estuaries across the nation.
I will continue working on this project and many more to make sure that our quality of life stays high.
Evidence
I am requesting funding for the Indian River Lagoon (IRL) Smart & Secure Shores Project in Fiscal Year 2027. The funding will be used to work within an existing multi-stakeholder partner framework, including the IRL National Estuary Program and Florida Tech’s Vertex Applied Innovation Hub, to deploy modular 3D concrete-printed shoreline defenses; embed sensor-enabled digital-twin technology for shoreline data capture; and train a skilled workforce. The funds will boost restoration efficiency shoreline-resilience technologies to protect the Indian River Lagoon.
Mr. HARIDOPOLOS. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to share important news for the families of Florida’s Space Coast. Through the recent appropriations package, I was proud to help secure nearly $14 million to improve water quality projects and protect the long-term health of the Indian River Lagoon. This funding will support restoration efforts, strengthen habitat protection, and advance projects that reduce nutrient pollution that has entered the lagoon.
Assessments
Haridopolos promised broadly to protect the Indian River Lagoon and support environmental safeguards. In his current federal term, he formally pursued lagoon restoration/resilience funding and publicly claimed a role in securing nearly $14 million in an appropriations package for water quality, habitat protection, restoration, and nutrient-pollution reduction. Because the promise was framed as support and protection rather than completion of a specific project, this constitutes delivered action within the same term rather than merely an unsuccessful attempt.
